Total Uganda unveils new unleaded fuel

Oil marketer Total Uganda has introduced a new brand of petrol and diesel gas it says has lasting protection on car engines.

According to Total, Excellium has shown great impact in protecting engines in the 18 countries where it’s being used. Research shows that the additive added in the unleaded fuels reduces up to 93 per cent of buildup in diesel engines and 99 per cent for petrol engines.

Excellium also cuts down on carbon monoxide and black fumes emissions by 10 per cent in new cars and 25 percent in cars that are over five years old.

While presiding over the launch of the new fuel, Florentin de Loppinot, the company’s managing director said although there are many hi-tech cars in the country, they are also sensitive to buildup which negatively affects the engine performance. He added that it’s buildups that lead to high fuel consumption and a rise in harmful emissions that pushed them to come up with a cleaner fuel.

“By eliminating deposits in the injection systems, Total Excellium keeps engines performing at their optimum level over time. It has additives which include molecules that reduce friction between metal parts to help extend engine life.

The cleaning and friction-reduction technologies lead to reduced fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions,” said Florentin de Loppinot. “The fuel gives an unchallenged longevity as it performs longer than other fuels and therefore less fuel is required to cover a longer distance”.

Ted Mugisa, the Total Uganda sales and marketing manager, said the new generation unleaded Excellium is available at all the 125 Total service stations countrywide at the prevailing market rates.

“When you drive your car, deposits start to build with time, thus increased inefficiencies which means pressing the accelerator pedal more so that you can get that power lost, this results into using more fuel and emitting pollutants. With excellium, it has been proved that it reduces deposit build an can be used by old and new engines,” said Mugisa.
