[Tanzania] Maxcom Africa increases card recharging points for Dar rapid buses commuters

Payment systems agency Maxcom Africa Limited has unveiled an electronic payment system that allows commuters of Dar Rapid Transit, Udart, buses recharge their smart cards at any Malipo shops countrywide as it seeks to bolster the growing interest in the modern buses.

According to the Chief Operator Officer of Maxcom Africa Mr Ahmed Lissasi the commuters with the Udart would be required to visit any Max Malipo agency and activate their cards with the amount they want to recharge.

“The commuters will be provided with payment receipt once they recharge their cards at the Max Malipo shops or any agency all over the country,” he said adding that passengers would also be able to check out their balances in their smart cards.

He said the system formulated by Max Malipo together with Udart aims at curbing queuing at Udart terminals and other unnecessary chaos experienced by the commuters at the terminals.

“Udart and Max Malipo are always in the forefront in enhancing various services through electronic mode that makes it easy for the passengers of Udart and other stakeholders to acquire the convenient services at a short time,” he said.

Mr Lissasi said that the launched payment mode is the special and successful mode of payment that also enables the passengers to activate and check their balances of their cards through phones.

 Since the launch of Udart Project in the City, Max Malipo and the management of Udart have initiated numerous improvements and professional approach that aims at controlling revenue loss and ensuring transparency.

Udart Spokesperson Mr Deus Bugaywa commended Maxcom Africa for initiating the payment mode, saying that the mode would help improve the transportation sector in the city. He said that through the payment mode introduced by Max Malipo, the Udart Company has witnessed tremendous changes in the company especially in the collection of revenues.

Mr Mugaywa however noted that Udart was facing shortage of smart cards and called for the public patience as it works out solution to the problem.

Mr Mugaywa said that the company has therefore extended the use of tickets. Earlier, Udart announced to stop ticketing system in July 31 this year.

“We are working out to ensure adequate cards before we cancel the ticketing systems,” he said adding that they had ran shortage of the cards following various inconveniences incurred by the supplier.
