[Namibia] Namib Mills expands portfolio and reach as demand for its products soars

Namibia food producer Namib Mills has diversified into new products and set eyes on expansion to the rest of South African countries as demand for its produce soars.

The company has launched a new wheat mill in what it attributes to growing sale of pasta. The company said, without giving figures, exports to South Africa and Zambia have increased. They export about 700 tonnes of pasta every month.

The company stated that it will be investing in a state of the art wheat mill from Bühler, a Swiss-based company. The plant is expected to be commissioned in late 2017 or early 2018.

The total investment for the 300 tonne-per-day plant will be N$105 million.  “The mill will help to grow the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Namibia, and will earn foreign exchange with the exports. It will also ensure more job security for the current employees of Namib Mills in Namibia.”

The company said the new plant is testament to a new successful chapter on the initial infant industry protection granted to the industry in Namibia back in 2001. The protection has lasted 12 years.

Namib Mills started exports three years ago, and also plans to expand its depot in Johannesburg.
