Fana Broadcasting Corporation receives license for commercial satellite TV station

Fana Broadcasting Corporation has been granted permission to transmit a commercial satellite TV station by the Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority.

Weldu Yimesel, CEO of the Fana Broadcasting Corporation, states that they have been making preparations to launch its first commercial satellite television channel.

The FBC applied to get permission for a commercial satellite television transmission on April, 2016, according to Weldu. The FBC has signed an agreement with international companies for the facilitation of editing equipment.

The FBC will be ready to conduct a transmission signal test in October 2016 and televise its regular spearhead commercial satellite television programme in January 2017. According to Weldu, FBC is coming with new presentation styles in entertainment and educational programmes.

The FBC was the first commercial national broadcaster and multi-lingual radio station. It was reorganised as radio FANA in 1994 under the ownership of the four regional endowments. Radio FANA grew in to the Fana Broadcasting Corporation to enter the TV business. FBC operates three SW, one MW and seven FM transmissions.
