Ethiopian Airlines wins “Airline of the Year” award
Ethiopian Airlines has been named for the fourth year in a row as the Airline of the Year by the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) at its 47th Annual General Assembly held Tuesday, in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.
The national carrier was awarded with its outstanding financial performance in 2014 and its ever expanding intra-Africa network and sound growth plan, reiterating its consistent profitability, and sound strategy, which has enabled the airline to enhance partnerships with fellow African airlines, showcasing ASKY and Malawian Airlines as successful multiple hub operators for the continent, the airlines said in a statement Wednesday.
“First and foremost I would like to thank AFRAA, our continental Association, for the continued recognition of our superior performance. I would also like to thank the more than 9,000 strong employees who have worked 24/7 around the globe to make the airline a distinguished shining star on the skies. As a truly indigenous Pan-African airline bringing Africa together and connecting with the rest of the world continuously for the last seven decades, we are honored to receive this prestigious award for the last four consecutive years and it will energize us further to do more for the continent in our vision 2025 strategic road map,” the Ethiopian Group CEO Tewolde GebreMariam remarked,
He added, “Today Africa is on the rise, inhabiting the newly emerging fastest-growing economies and youngest population which could serve as a spring board to an enhanced future of the region. We pledge to sustain our commitment to expand our reach in our home market, Africa with a view to support to the continent’s socio-economic integration and development besides realizing the renaissance of our beloved continent.”
Ethiopian is a multi-award winning airline, including the APEX Passenger Choice Award, the most extensive survey of passengers in the industry, CAPA Airline of the Year Award, the Best Regional Airline Award by Air Transport World, to mention just a few.
