Payroll Association ready to acknowledge country’s leadership in payroll

The South African Payroll Association has confirmed dates and venues for its annual national conference. This year the membership-based payroll organisation will host local businesses in Cape Town on 04 & 05 August and in Johannesburg on 17 & 18 August.

The Cape Town conference will take place at the Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, and the Johannesburg conference at Montecasino.

Directors at the organisation have already notified the market of the schedule and are excited about the theme of this year’s conference which is ‘South Africa: Leaders in Payroll’.

James McKerrell, Chairperson of the organisation, said the theme reflects the real progress that the domestic market has made in terms of payroll administration, application of technology and enhancement of services, processes and procedures.

“We acknowledge the hard work that has been done by all members in maintaining standards, of being able to adapt to changes – and ongoing pressure, to ensure that payroll continues to be well managed and respected in the workplace,” said McKerrell.

Whilst the Association has already tabled a number of topics that delegates can expect at this year’s conference, it has extended an invitation to members to offer suggestions on case studies and/or presentations for consideration to incorporate.

Topics on the list for consideration include tax developments impacting payroll, national health insurance developments and impact on medical schemes, retirement fund developments, payroll compliance, Protection of Personal Information & Consumer Protection Bill, amongst others.

In keeping with its role as a guardian of payroll professionalism and administrative standards, the SA Payroll Association informs its members that the SARS-e-filing notification recently sent out containing employee tax reference numbers was incorrect. The Revenue Services is aware of the issue and will inform employers of correction notifications to come through.

This is an illustration of the Association’s position in the market and its core mandate to facilitate communication with members.

The Conference is open to both members and non-members. McKerrell also reminds the market that exhibition stands are available for booking and there is also an opportunity to engage with the Association with regard to sponsorship.

“Any company that contributes by way of sponsorship will receive acknowledgement. There are a number of ways to become involved as a sponsor and we urge decision makers out there to consider the real value that comes with this affiliation,” McKerrell continues.

Accsys, a member of the SA Payroll Association, has agreed to sponsor a training bursary at the Conference.

Members who register before or on 30 June 2011 will pay R2150 excl. VAT and non-members will pay R3450 excl. VAT. After this date the rates are R2850 excl. VAT and R3990 excl. VAT, respectively. Companies that register five or more delegates will qualify for a 10% discount.
