Lafarge Egypt partners with National Research Centre to promote use of innovative construction materials

The National Research Centre (NRC) and Lafarge Egypt, a member of LafargeHolcim Group, have inked a Memorandum of Understanding, to promote the future of the Cement Industry in Egypt.

Leveraging their mutual potentials, both entities have allied to build upon NRC’s witnessed research capabilities & Lafarge Egypt’s seasoned expertise in the construction sector.

“Optimizing scientific innovations & comprehensive applied researches, our promising collaboration shall bring to life high-end local products that can competently compete with imported equivalents. Sharing the same values, NRC & Lafarge Egypt will set a solid foundation for the 5G Industry based on Egypt’s Vision 2030 Strategy and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).” President of the National Research Centre - Dr. Mohamed Hashem stated.

CEO of Lafarge Egypt - Solomon Baumgartner Aviles, highlighted: “Being a member of LafargeHolcim Group, Lafarge Egypt has long pioneered in being a key player in the Egyptian construction market; dexterously utilizing R&D to promote exceptional building materials.”

Dr. Hala Elkady and Eng. Ayman Wali – representatives of both parties, have further highlighted that the first phase of such fruitful collaborations hall comprise manufacturing cutting-edge materials from local elements. Advanced stages shall encompass the production of multi-purpose ultra-lightweight concrete, as well as establishing affordable housing units.

In her capacity as a subject-matter expert in the African Union (AU) - European Union (EU) High Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), Dr. Hala Elkady highlighted the NRC research endeavors, crowned by international acknowledgment& patents. Hand in hand with Lafarge Egypt, NRC shall promote a number of sustainable construction materials that are Fire, Weather & Radiation resistance, with low permeability properties to properly serve mega national development projects.

The signing ceremony was conducted by President of the National Research Centre -Dr. Mohamed Hashem, and CEO of Lafarge Egypt - Solomon Baumgartner Aviles.
