Egypt, Denmark collaborate to develop clean power in country

Egypt is working with the Danish Energy Agency to develop more renewable energy in the North African country.

The aim of the collaboration is to help Egypt achieve its goal of increasing the share of renewable energy consumption to 43% by 2035 from from 9% currently.

DEA will provide technical assistance and experience from the development of renewables in Denmark.

An adviser will be posted at the Danish Embassy in Cairo to provide the technical assistance in selected areas.

DEA deputy director general Martin Hansen said: “The Danish Energy Agency has great expectations that the cooperation with the Egyptian authorities will increase the demand for Danish energy knowledge and technology – also for the benefit of Danish companies.”

Danish ambassador in Cairo Tomas Anker Christensen said: “From the Danish side, we are keen to strengthen and expand our long-term cooperation with Egypt and build on previous experiences with close contact in the energy field.

“Strengthened government cooperation on energy and placing an adviser at the embassy in Cairo is a win-win for both countries, as it matches Danish core competencies and Egyptian development priorities.”

Egypt is the 15th country to collaborate bilaterally with the Danish Energy Agency.
