DRC - Great Lakes Region Private Investment Meeting Opens Today
The Great Lakes Region Private Investment Conference is opening Wednesday in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Angola is attending the event with a delegation headed by the vice president, Manuel Domingos Vicente, on behalf of the head of State José Eduardo dos Santos, who currently holds the chair of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region.
The UN secretary general, Ban Kim-moon, and the president of the African Union, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, are already in Kinshasa for the meeting.
Also in Kinshasa are representatives of the World Bank and Africa Development Bank, business people and other organisations with a bearing on the region's economic growth.
Several heads of State and Government from the region are expected in Kinshasa for the meeting going on with the theme "Investing in the Great Region: doing business and promoting peace and development".
According to the organisation, the meeting might be an opportunity to mobilise investments, promote partnerships for regional projects capable of boosting jobs, productivity and a common vision on shared management of resources with reciprocal advantages.
The event is also intended to create the appropriate environment for dialogue between the public and private sectors on investment opportunities and establishment of partnerships among the 350 participants.
It is believed that the natural resources potential of the Great Lakes Region with about 400 million inhabitants, coupled with political stability, could provide the appropriate business environment to increase its Gross Domestic Product currently estimated at USD 1.1 trillion.
