Airtel Rwanda empowers local cooperative

Airtel Rwanda has donated a total of three weaving machines, a computer and month’s internet supply to a local weaving cooperative called ISANO; a group of 12 talented young Rwandans, all of whom are affected in some way by HIV/AIDS.

The group which was started in 2013 by a young Rwandan, Celine Mudahakana with the aim of creating a sustainable source of income for young people affected by HIV/AIDS is mainly comprised of young mothers.

“The weaving machines will increase our production and we will now be able to sell more and in turn increase our income,” Gatesi Francine, President of ISANO cooperative said while speaking on behalf of the group.

She added, “The computer will help us market and communicate our products to Rwandans and the outside world; something we have been unable to do since we started. We thank Airtel for supporting and empowering our business.”

Handing over the machines, Mr. Christophe Soulet, the Executive Director at Airtel Africa said, “We at Airtel will always be here to support and make lives better. As a youthful brand, we pride ourselves in empowering youth in all our areas of operation.”

Airtel Rwanda Managing Director, Mr. Teddy Bhullar re-affirmed Airtel’s commitment to unlocking the power of potential in Rwanda’s youth by enabling them to reach their highest capacity.

He said, “Through these donations, we hope we can make a difference in the lives of the beneficiaries.”

Mr. Bhullar also added that Airtel would continue to identify youth cooperatives to support and empower.
