Air Mauritius launches flying academy
The Flying Academy of the Air Mauritius Institute (AMI) has been launched offering pilot training for an ATPL license recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
This course has been approved by the Mauritius Qualifications Authority (MQA) and the South African Civil Aviation.
The academy will work in partnership with the Progress Flight Academy in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The training course will be run at the academy headquarters in Mauritius (Ebène).
The courses will be divided into two parts. The training in Mauritius will last for 24 weeks whereas the Flight training given by Progress Flight Academy in South Africa will last between 44 to 54 weeks.
The launch of the Flying Academy follows the setting up of the Air Mauritius Institute in 2018 as a subsidiary of Air Mauritius.
Somas Appavou, CEO of Air Mauritius said: "According to forecasts in the air transport industry passenger traffic is expected to double over the next 15 years. Approximately 38 400 new aircraft will be needed and more than 500,000 pilots will have to be trained by 2037. The future of our industry is therefore based on our ability to prepare for this great growth potential while providing us with appropriate infrastructure and skilled labour".
