[Zambia] Airtel connects Ndola Public Library
The Ndola Public Library has received a shot in the arm through a donation from Airtel Networks Zambia Plc of assorted educational books and a router to connect internet worth K21, 000.
Receiving the books on behalf of the Ndola Town Clerk, Mr Wisdom Bwalya, Director of Administration at the Ndola Council, Ms Yombwe Chisamu, said she was delighted to receive the books which symbolized a true Public Private Partnership.
She said the donation had come at the right time when the reading culture in the country was being encouraged and Public Libraries were open to everyone thus making it possible for all members of society to access the books.
“What we are witnessing here is a true testament to of a Public Private Partnership in the form of education. We are truly grateful to Airtel for remembering us in Ndola and making this donation which we promise to safeguard so as the next generations can use them as well,” Ms. Chisamu said.
And on handing over the books on behalf of Airtel at the Ndola Public Library, Copperbelt Zonal Business Manager, Mr. Edwin Mwampatisha said it was the Company’s hope that the donation would help open the minds of the many individuals who visited the library to help ignite their hidden potential to prove that any person irregardless of status, colour, sex or creed was a potential leader of tomorrow.
“Airtel believes that education is the gateway to better opportunities as well as success and as such, we are committed to continue changing the lives of our communities through assisting where possible in the education sector,” Mr. Mwampatisha said.
Adding: “With the fast growing dependency of education in ICT, we feel that while scholars need to use more ICT tools to be in touch with the world, and that is why we are also donating a router, we cannot rule out the use of paper books which for time in memorial has been our means of studying.”
