[Kenya] Africa Tech Challenge returns after after a two-year break

Chinese construction company AVIC International has announced the return of the Africa Tech Challenge after a two-year hiatus prompted by the covid-19 pandemic.

The competition targeting young engineers from Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Egypt, Zambia and Zimbabwe will reward the top six teams with numerous prizes.

“The theme of this year’s competition is limitless innovation, which emphasizes on harnessing technology to push the boundaries of creativity,” the company said.

The competition which will be conducted through the AVIC Online Learning Platform has attracted a total of 236 students.

“After a one-month training in construction engineering reading theory and construction drawing drafting, contestants from various countries will compete in a preliminary competition. One winning team from each nation will be chosen via the preliminary competition to compete in the final, and the top three individuals from each country will be awarded,” said AVIC International.

Among the benefits that participants in the competition will gain are fully funded scholarships in some of the best Chinese universities. Winners will also be given internships and job opportunities among other perks.

The firm has partnered with Kenya’s Ministry of Education in efforts to boost knowledge of construction technologies.
