Jumia Food launches online pre-payments in Kenya and Uganda
Online food delivering company Jumia Food has announced the launch of online pre-payments for its customers in Kenya and Uganda. This new payments option is an addition to the post-payment option, which highly featured cash and Mpesa on delivery.
According to the company, the online pre-payments leverages the prominence of online payments in Africa, a continent that boasted 100 million active mobile money accounts in 2017.
‘’We are now providing our customers with the security and freedom to pay via safe online and mobile payment platforms from wherever they are,” said Shreenal Ruparelia, Jumia Food Kenya Managing Director.
While cash on delivery as a mode of payment is still high in Kenya, the market is swiftly shifting in a bid to provide e-payment services to an increasingly diverse, demanding and trusting clientele. According to Shreenal, the uptake of pre-payments by Jumia Food will ensure better customer experience, reduce pilferage for the restaurants as well as offer food customers more choice in regards to payment options.
Restaurant brands that have embraced the pre-payment methods include KFC, Pizza Hut, Debonairs, and local delights like Monikos, Clay Oven, Mambo Italia, and Newscafe among others.
