Butterfly Network gets $5M to send ultrasound probes to Africa
Butterfly Network, a digital health company transforming care with handheld, whole-body ultrasound, today announced it received a grant for $5 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to give 1,000 handheld ultrasound probes to medical communities in sub-Saharan Africa.
The money will be used to bring 500 Butterfly iQ+ handheld whole-body ultrasound probes to midlevel practitioners in Kenya, and another 500 to healthcare workers in South Africa. Also, they will receive training.
The probes will be used to improve maternal and fetal health in those areas.
