Broadband Systems Corporation launches iDirect network to expand broadband service across Africa
VT iDirect, Inc., iDirect, a company of Vision Technologies Systems, Inc. has announced that Broadband Systems Corporation (BSC) has selected the iDirect platform to expand its enterprise Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) services throughout Africa.
The new iDirect-based service will leverage iDirect’s iQ series remotes to provide high-speed connectivity to multinational companies, small-and-medium enterprises and small businesses, as well as government organizations. BSC will also tap on the iDirect platform to backhaul 4G mobile traffic at enhanced speeds and connectivity.
BSC is the largest service provider in Rwanda, and their vision is to make Rwanda one of the most connected countries in Africa. The company was founded in 2010 and provides its services to approximately 35 million end users across the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi and South Sudan.
“Satellite communications has no topographic limitations and can be deployed quickly, making it the most viable connectivity solution across much of the African terrain,” said Christian Muhirwa, Chief Executive Officer, BSC. “Our iDirect-based network will provide dependable backbone communications to help African nations drive business growth, expand social welfare programs, protect citizen safety through improved emergency response communications, and enable mobile operators to greatly expand their service areas.”
“With its investment in the iDirect platform, BSC can offer satellite services across multiple markets with the lowest cost of ownership,” said John Arnold, Senior Vice President, Global Sales, VT iDirect. “The iDirect platform provides BSC with a strong business advantage and service reach, to drive the adoption of VSAT connectivity and to spur the development of businesses, government and non-profit services across the African continent.”
