[Angola] Sonangol to construct scientific research center to boost oil production
Angola national fuel company Sonangol has set its eyes on 2021 to start the construction of a center for scientific research and innovation.
The structure comes under the restructuring program of the national oil company, within the framework of the approval and implementation of the new macrostructure of the company, in the light of two Presidential Decrees that establish the general and strategic bases for the creation of a Research and Technology Center.
According to Sonangol, center will identify strategic projects for the organization, within the scope of knowledge development.
The construction is scheduled to start in 2021 and end in 2022, in a physical space that will house several other institutions of higher education, professional training and business incubators, as part of a Pole for Scientific and Technological Research.
The said pole to be created is an initiative of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Petroleum (MIREMPET) in partnership with the National Oil and Gas Agency (ANPG) and multinational operators, such as the Norwegian Equinor.
The said Center for Scientific Research is Innovation (CIITIP) to be built, in stages, in the vicinity of the National Petroleum Institute and the Higher Petroleum Institute, in the city of Sumbe, province of Cuanza Sul, will act as an advisory and charitable body. It will monitor, evaluate and decide on research and innovation activities, as well as to assess the existing conditions and the resources available, in order to guarantee excellence in terms of productivity.
The institution also plans to pursue explore the scientific, technological development and the sustainability of Sonangol and the national oil sector.
Its performance will be in line with the operations of Sonangol and the sector's value chain, especially the need for exploration, development, production, refining and petrochemicals, renewable energy and sustainable development.
