World Bank VP for Africa, Makhtar Diop, visits Kenya and Rwanda

The World Bank’s Vice President for the Africa Region, Mr. Makhtar Diop, will visit Kenya and Rwanda from May 2 to 4, 2018. During his visit, Mr. Diop will meet the Kenyan President, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta and Rwandan President H.E. Paul Kagame.

In Kenya, Mr. Diop will discuss the overall portfolio of World Bank supported projects and how the World Bank can support Kenya in achieving a middle-income status. Kenya became a Blend country on July 1, 2017. This means that Kenya will start accessing the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) financing in addition to International Development Assistance (IDA) financing. Kenya is receiving substantial financing from an expanded range of sources: IDA, IDA Scale-up Facility and IBRD, in addition to the IDA18 Refugees Window.

In Rwanda, Mr. Diop and President Kagame will discuss current World Bank financing and how the Bank can continue to support and strengthen further the country’s achievements, and increase opportunities for sustainable development.

Mr. Diop will also meet and discuss with senior government officials including the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and the Minister of Infrastructure.
