[South Africa] Vodacom introduces free funeral cover for its customers

Vodacom Insurance is introducing free ‘Siyakha Funeral Cover’. The funeral cover is the first product to launch under the new ‘Siyakha Price Plan’ that will also see customers receive up to 50 per cent in additional airtime value whenever they recharge their airtime balance.

As part of the initial launch, the plan will offer cover of R10 000 to the first 100 000 people who switch to the new Siyakha Price Plan.

To date, over a million Vodacom customers have signed up for a range of insurance policies which include cell-phone, laptop cover, life and funeral cover through Vodacom insurance.
Vodacom Chief Officer for the Consumer Business Unit, Nyimpini Mabunda, says: “The emerging market segment, which is the Siyakha audience, is extremely value conscious and price sensitive. Therefore flexibility and affordability are key priorities to consider when introducing new products to this market. With our continued investment in big data, we will continue to offer more personalised products and services that will address the primary needs of this segment”.

When Vodacom launched Siyakha six months ago, the platform offered free (zero-rated) and lower priced products and services with the aim of lowering the cost to communicate in South Africa while simultaneously seeking to increase digital and social connectivity.

One of the first products launched under the Siyakha banner was Facebook Flex, which is now used by more than 1, 3 million Vodacom customers for free. The mobile Mum & Baby solution, which provides FREE health information has also been a resounding success.

In just six months, over 450 000 subscribers have accessed information from Breastfeeding, Immunization, Nutrition, HIV/AIDS and Sexual and reproductive health on the Mum & Baby platform.
