[South Africa] Emirates Airline adds two flights to Durban

Emirates Airline will add two more flights into Durban from February 1 which means that the airline will now fly a daily scheduled air service between Durban and Dubai.

Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC, Ravi Pillay said: “This is an absolute vote of confidence in Durban as a global player in the aviation space. It demonstrates the resilience of our systems even in the face of an unprecedented global crisis that the aviation industry is faced with at the moment”

Before the advent of Covid-19, KwaZulu-Natal was enjoying a steady growth in international arrivals into the Province. Since Emirates started flying directly into Durban, the King Shaka International Airport realised a significant rise in passenger numbers.

“This announcement comes at a time when airlines across the world are scaling back their operations, mainly as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is therefore a welcome development to have Emirates adding additional flights into Durban. This augurs well for our endeavours to attract investors and tourists into KwaZulu-Natal. Reconnecting KwaZulu-Natal to the world will be central to the recovery of our tourism sector,” added Pillay.
