Send or Receive Money Through the Internet.

range Kenya subscribers now have an option to send and receive money without relying on SIM card-supported transactions. The use of platforms such as Java (J2ME) and WAP is meant to ease transactions even in areas where the telecom coverage network is limited. Speaking in Nairobi while launching the new platform, Telkom Kenya Chief Executive Mickael Ghossein said the new access channels would give customers an even friendlier user interface that can be customised for ease of use and safety of the transaction.
“One of the key attributes that sets Orange Money apart from other similar services is the fact that it offers more convenience to customers,” said Ghossein.
“By introducing these new channels, we remain true to our promise to ensure that Orange Money is the most convenient way to transact from your mobile phone as well as other Orange-supported applications.”
“This is yet another first to have the most comprehensive combination of access channels for both our customers and agents,” he added.
The J2ME application is downloadable from the Internet and uploaded onto one’s handset. WAP on the other hand is a web interface that can be accessed via the Internet. All internet-enabled handsets can be used to access J2ME or WAP.
Customers using WAP or J2ME will access the existing services on the customer menu.
The new access channel to mobile money gives Orange agents a chance to conduct all customer transactions via J2ME.
Orange launched Orange Money last November in partnership with Equity Bank to deepen access to financial services among Kenyans. The solution combines the features of mobile money transfer services and those of mobile banking.
