RSUST at 19th Position on World Webometric Ranking Table of Nigerian Universities

Following the academic performance of the Rivers State University of Technology [RSUST] has recently shot up from its 76th position to the 19th position on the ‘World Webometric Ranking Table of Nigerian Universities.

The RSUST Vice- Chancellor, Professor Barineme Beke Fakae disclosed this in an interactive forum with the Federated Correspondents Chapel in Port Harcourt.

Professor Fakae stated that out of the 124 universities in the country 27 were considered qualified for visitation by the Nigeria Universities Commission for the purposes of institutional accreditation and with impressive score of 67.25 percent and rated A in the second category to operate as a university for the next five years.

As one of the only three universities in Nigeria that made voluntary commitments to the Rio+20 conferences in Rio de Janeiro, Campus Radio License was obtained from the Presidency [Channel 103.7 MHz Fm] for the purposes of learning and enlightenment for the mass communication students.

According to him as the foremost e-varsity with an enviable record of 12 years results online been downloadable from any part of world allows for instant transcript preparation therefore the institution now runs an e-Senate [totally paperless] since all senate members use their Laptop, ipads or Notepads during senate meetings.

Other achievements of the Professor Fakae leadership include students now see their results without bribing their way and parents can confirm their children and wards status online, the university can boast of running the most robust campus management system which is still scalable, one of the largest ICT Centre which houses over 1,000 work stations with a standby 375 KVA alternative power supply.

It also runs the largest IT Academy in universities in the country in partnership with Microsoft, Ciso and intel, successfully implemented e-Examinations which is now being introduced to remove all the misconducts, irregularities and difficulties that use to arise with manual exams.

Due to transparency the international and institutional collaborations have been picked which include the good examples in the environmental studies that produced the last widely accepted Environmental Report on Ogoni Land and the Rivers State Sustainable Development for student’s scholarship, Professional chair in Agriculture and research initiatives.

However, Professor Fakae was re-appointed by the governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi in a letter dated 5th September

2012 and signed by the State Government Secretary, Mr. George Feyii was in pursuant to the provision of section 3 of the First Schedule to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Law.

Also according to him another batch of convocation will take place on the 27th April 2013 also the credibility of challenges face by his regime have been overcome therefore the university now enjoying industrial intervention which are donation of internet laboratory to faculty of engineering by LNG, donation of Auto CAD laboratory, by Chevron, 140 workstation with 375 KVA generator for e-learning by NDDC amongst others.
