President of Uganda Yoweri K. Museveni to Open AgriBusiness Forum 2010
On the 4th of October 2010, President Yoweri K. Museveni of Uganda will open the 4-day AgriBusiness Forum in Kampala, Uganda, organised by the Brussels-based non-profit organisation EMRC in partnership with and under the high patronage of the Government of the Republic of Uganda. The Forum will attract over 400 participants, including major economic-growth stakeholders, the public and private sectors, infrastructure investors, entrepreneurs, international agribusiness companies, farmer associations, private equity firms, bankers, financiers, NGOs, researchers, project developers and managers.
The AgriBusiness Forum 2010 will address the business opportunities the global food-security situation presents for agribusiness throughout Africa, reviewing successful case studies and analysing best practices in the agri-food industry. A diverse range of experts from the fields of agribusiness, finance and investment, sustainable development, nutrition and scientific research will address topics such as the role of the private sector in improving access to food, increasing sustainable agricultural productivity and the sourcing of agribusiness finance. Dedicated business-to-business sessions and business networking events will facilitate delegate introductions and encourage partnership-building and project collaboration.
To encourage development, innovation and entrepreneurship in the African agri-food sector, all participants will be eligible to enter their project ideas for the EMRC-Rabobank Project Incubator Award. The US$15,000 grand prize will be awarded to the proposal that best satisfies the entry criteria with a viable, dynamic idea that uplifts and impacts their community.
EMRC has ensured a strong ministerial presence at this year’s event - the 4-day AgriBusiness Forum will be concluded with a ministerial roundtable where the participating ministers will be presented with The AgriBusiness Forum Declaration of Intent. This document will summarise the conclusions and recommendations from the forum and outline the concrete steps that need to be taken in order for African agribusiness to respond proactively to global food-security needs. By supporting the declaration, the ministers endorse the recommendations and commit to implementing them in their respective countries and departments on their return.
The organisers of the AgriBusiness Forum 2010: the Government of Uganda, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry, EMRC and its partners, welcome all interested parties to participate in implementing our vision for responding to food-security challenges through investment and partnership-led innovation.
