Pan-African Parliament welcomes Africa's response to COVID-19

The international health crisis caused by COVID-19 is unprecedented. Like the whole world, African countries have mobilized to face it and win this health war.

Pan-African parliamentarians join the leaders of our continent in this tireless fight against this devastating pandemic for our societies.

To this end, the Pan-African Parliament wishes to note, to welcome this, the measures taken by several African heads of state to combine efforts and pool financial and human resources in the context of the fight against COVID-19.

The Pan African Parliament (PAP) welcomes the initiative of the President of the Republic of South Africa and President in office of the African Union (AU), HE CYRIL RAMAPHOSA, who has appointed four special envoys to lead the mobilization of '' international support for the efforts made by the continent.

The PAP also wishes to salute His Majesty the King MOHAMED VI of Morocco for his desire to share Moroccan expertise and technology with the rest of the continent for the manufacture of equipment which is crucial in the treatment of patients with COVID-19.

In addition, the PAP has taken note of and supports the call for a coordinated multilateral response for Africa from 18 heads of state and government as well as international institutions, and supported by the President of the African Union Commission , HE Moussa Faki MAHAMAT.

Likewise, the PAP welcomes the efforts made by the leaders in the 55 respective Member States of the African Union. All of these actions will undoubtedly allow our continent to share experiences carried out by States, good practices in order to face, in a united manner, the health, economic and social impact of COVID-19.

The PAP in turn commits to putting in place all the necessary means to ensure the implementation of continental leadership initiatives at the people level, and calls on all Pan-African Parliamentarians to make all the efforts required at the level of their states to enable our continent to overcome current challenges and pursue the path of development that is ours.

Finally, for the PAP, only a solution that takes into account all African countries is able to overcome this pandemic.
