Nigeria World Bank candidate salutes Kim

The Nigerian candidate to head the World Bank congratulated Korean-American physician Jim Yong Kim on his appointment to the post on Monday, but called for changes in the selection process.

"Dr Kim already phone me and we had an excellent conversation," Nigerian Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a former World Bank managing director, told reporters. "I would like to congratulate Dr Jim Yong Kim on his emergence as president of the World Bank Group ...

"With regards to the selection process, it is clear to me that we need to make it more open, transparent and merit-based. We need to make sure that we do not contribute to a democratic deficit in global governance."
