Mobile project management on the move as FOXit launches global first

FOXit (Pty) Ltd., a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and service provider focused on Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) in business, has spearheaded the development and release of METROit - the first available Windows Phone application to seamlessly connect to the Microsoft Enterprise Project Management (EPM) and PPM solutions.

METROit is an embedded application, based on Microsoft’s Metro styling and new user interface, that has been introduced to mobilise and revolutionise project management in business.

It provides a single view that facilitates real-time, one-touch consolidation between all aspects of project management. This includes task and time management, project approvals, risks management and issues resolution.

The offering is designed to correlate with any Windows phone 7 enabled device and can connect to a cloud based or on-premises based PPM solutions.

The application allows users to establish a secure mobile link with Microsoft’s Project Server 2010 environment in order to effectively manage the projects or organisation. Inclusive of all risks, issues, approvals and timesheets, METROit offers the user a single view in real-time of all project related work.

“This application is so much more than just another mobile application,” says FOXit CEO, Aldo van Tonder.

“The technology moves tasks directly from the published project schedules in Microsoft PPM to your daily work schedule and with the interactive calendar feature you can plan your whole week, month or year. Even taking into account your normal diary entries. Managing your time on tasks is as simple as pressing ‘start’ and your progress will be recorded. When completing a task you simply select ‘stop’. Time is booked directly to your timesheet,” van Tonder adds.

To capture tasks or issues the user selects from the start window, pin to the phone or Windows task bar. It is possible to add a new risk or issue directly from any mobile device, as it happens, without having to carry a notebook around. This adds tremendous value to users that are not office bound but still have to manage a specific project deliverable.

FOXit has always placed a premium on user experience and the relevance of project management technology. According to van Tonder it is important that users are able to interact and associate with this technology in order to derive the maximum benefit.

The company has ensured that filtering capabilities have been built into every function to ensure that the user can easily find specific project items based on criteria such as priority/ severity.

FOXit ‘s management believe that convergence with the mobile environment, through smartphones and other multi-functional devices, was a natural step in the evolution of project management and business software. The intention is to empower clients to take advantage of key technology trends including ubiquitous connectivity, cloud computing, social networking and consumerisation of technology.

“To say that we are excited about this launch is an understatement,” says van Tonder. “We are a non-conformist company that embodies the principle of thinking and acting ‘outside the box’. This is a unique offering that marries the advantages of mobility with high quality, secure inter-system operability. It presents the opportunity to effectively manage projects anywhere, anytime in the hands of users and decision makers. This means control and that means operational efficiency.”
