Ghana biometric voter reg underway

Ghana kicked off its biometric voter registration this weekend, with glitches reported at some stations.

Delays were experienced at some stations, where problems were reported with the registration equipment.

The process, scheduled to last 40 days, got underway nationwide on Saturday morning. However, some centres reported a low turn-out, while others had delays while a variety of technical problems were ironed out.

Earlier, the Principal Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC), Silvia Annor, reassured the public that the EC was adequately prepared for the biometric registration exercise.

He said 45,000 EC officials were being deployed to the 7,000 polling stations across the country.  A power generator was also deployed to each polling station, to prevent power outages from hampering the process.
