Egypt, Hungary explore partnerships in the livestock sector
Egypt Deputy Agriculture Minister for Animal Resources, Fisheries and Poultry Mona Mehrez has discussed in a meeting with Hungarian Ambassador in Cairo Peter Kveck means of boosting bilateral cooperation in the field of livestock.
During the meeting, attended by representatives from Hunland, the largest Hungarian company for livestock export and import, the two sides reviewed the possibility for increasing Hungarian investments in Egypt, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation said in a statement.
The deputy agriculture minister agreed with the Hungarian company's representatives to import Holstein calves of dual-purpose cattle breeds, to be distributed to junior breeders, which in turn could contribute to increasing the country's animal production, the statement added.
The two parties also agreed to import goats, especially in light of high demands from breeders of this strain, which is known with their high production of meat and milk, the statement read.
For their part, the Hunland representatives expressed their willingness to export Holstein calves to Egypt, in addition to providing the technical assistance to the country with regard to artificial insemination and the improvement of Egyptian breeds of cattle to increase their production of milk and meat, the statement noted.
At the end of the meeting, Mehrez proposed to the Hunland representatives to enter into a partnership with the private sector, with the aim of developing an integrated system for animal production and the leasing of farms in the Delta or Upper Egypt, the statement said.
