Airtel Uganda holds health camp in Kisoro district

Airtel Uganda staff members in partnership with Hind’s Feet Project volunteers and other organizations offered treatment to the sick residents and equipped them with sufficient and relevant information to make proper health decisions at Nyakabaya Primary School in Nyarusiza.

Neither the extreme cold nor the persistent drizzle could deter residents from attending the Airtel Uganda health camp that was held over the weekend in Kisoro district.

The medical services offered included; Hepatitis B screening and vaccination, dental care, eye checkups and general medicine, screening for HIV, diabetes, ulcers, blood pressure, syphilis, hepatitis B and malaria. The camp also held activities specifically for the female residents such as marital counselling, breast and cervical cancer awareness and treatment as well as demonstrations on how to use female condoms and sanitary towels.

Speaking at the health fair, Airtel Uganda Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Mrs. Charity R. Bukenya said, “Throughout March, we have held a number of activities all geared towards the support of Women in Uganda – especially the less fortunate ones.”
“As our final Women’s month activity, we felt that it was prudent to visit Kisoro – a region with activities such as prostitution that increase exposure to STDs – and treat as well as teach the women here how to protect their lives,” she added.

The Kisoro health camp, which attracted thousands of residents from Kisoro and surrounding areas, is the first health outreach to be organized by Airtel this year. Last year, the telecommunications company held similar outreaches in Fort Portal, Kabale and Kampala districts.
