Air Nigeria plans to boost dominance on regional routes
In its bid to further reinforce dominance in the African market, Air Nigeria is set to extend its route coverage to Freetown in Sierra Leone and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as improving connectivity between all existing 10 regional destinations by introducing new sectors and increased frequencies across existing routes.
The scheduled commencement of the Freetown and Kinshasa routes as well as the increased frequencies on the regional routes –Accra & Douala will be effective from early November. It is geared towards making air transport more accessible by developing new routes and linking them to the existing routes network to better serve the demands of passengers.
Air Nigeria currently has an established route network that provides convenient connections for domestic, regional and international passengers and its drive to make Accra a mini-hub for flights around the West African region, and Cotonou for flights to the Central African region, will further make it an airline of choice for air travellers in Africa and beyond. Whilst it offers seamless connectivity in the regional and domestic routes, it is also able to connect onwards via interline agreements with various airlines and its codeshare partnership with Delta Airlines and Kenya Airways.
The commencement of the new routes is coming just after it introduced twice weekly flights to Sao Tome & Principe and took delivery of an additional Boeing 737-400 series aircraft which brings its fleet size to 11. With the introduction of the new flights to Freetown and Kinshasa, Air Nigeria will have presence across 12 countries in the West and Central African region.
Similarly, Air Nigeria has reiterated its plans to recommence international operations to London Gatwick just as the Companies House in London, the United Kingdom Registrar of Companies has duly incorporated the new name of the airline by accepting and hosting it on its registry.
With the incorporation of the Air Nigeria Development Limited tradename in the UK, the airline is expediting preparation to resume flights to London in the near future.
Air Nigeria’s rapidly growing dominance attests to the successes of the turnaround process initiated just over a year ago by the airline’s new management under the Chairmanship of Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim. Air Nigeria has grown steadily with the introduction of new routes and aircraft to its fleet over the past few months thereby building its customer’s confidence in the airline’s ability to meet and exceed their travel needs and requirements.
Air Nigeria is one of the fastest growing airlines in West & Central Africa and operates to the highest international standards. From its operational base at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, Air Nigeria currently operates to Benin City, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kano, Sokoto and Enugu on the domestic routes while it also operates to Brazzaville, Accra, Douala, Dakar, Monrovia, Cotonou, Banjul, Libreville, Abidjan and Sao Tome & Principe with further plans to extend services to more African destinations, Europe, Asia and the Americas in the near future.
Air Nigeria was earlier in the year voted as the “Airline of the Year 2010” at the Nigeria Aviation Awards (NIGAV), in recognition of its outstanding contributions towards the development of the Nigerian aviation industry. The airline was also last year named the Best Security Conscious Airline in West and Central Africa by Security Watch Africa for its strict adherence to prescribed aviation safety standards.
