AfDB names three new Vice Presidents

The president of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Donald Kaberuka, named three new Vice Presidents on 26 March.  They are Zondo Sakala, Rémy Rioux and Cecilia Akintominde.

Mr Sakala is one of the longest-serving members of the AfDB’s staff.  Currently the budget director, he will now move on to become head of the AfDB’s operations department for country and regional programmes and policies (ORVP).  He will continue the programme of reforms started by his predecessors. “I am certain that drawing on his long operational experience including as resident represenative in Nigeria, he will provide new momentum to ORVP,” said Mr Kaberuka

Mr Rioux will be in charge of the department for operations in the private sector, infrastructure and regional integration (OIVP). He arrives from the French Treasury, where his duties included responsibility for International Financial Institutions.  “He has a deep understanding of the Bank and of Africa, having been with us during the negotiations on the general capital increase and ADF-12.  I have no doubt he will build on the foundations laid by Bobby Pittman and Mandla Gantsho [his predecessors] in taking forward the OIVP team,” commented Mr Kaberuka.

Cecilia Akintomide, currently the AfDB’s Secretary General will now take the rank of Vice President. “She has discharged her duties and responsibilities at SEGL with remarkable commitment, devotion to the Bank and brought much gravitas to the position,” said Mr Kaberuka.
