Tanzanian Banker wins East African Banker Award

CRDB Bank Managing Director, Dr. Charles Kimei, has received the Life Time Achievement Award in recognition of more than 30 years of outstanding contributions to the banking and financial sector in Tanzania and the region.

Dr. Kimei, the first Tanzanian to win the award, is named as the visionary leader who spearheaded remarkable turning around of CRDB Bank from a loss making entity to become the biggest bank in Tanzania and East Africa.

He was conferred the 'Lifetime Achievement' award in a colorful East African Bankers award night, held in Nairobi Kenya, on Tuesday. In accepting the award, Dr. Kimei said: "I owe this achievement to the valuable opportunities made available to me by my strong team at CRDB Bank, our valuable customers, my family and my fellow Tanzanians.

"I am proud to have been associated with CRDB Bank in its quest to emerge as the leading financial services provider in Tanzania and beyond. "I thank the entire Tanzania banking and financial industry for this recognition and goodwill. I also owe this achievement to the unstinted support from the 2000 plus colleagues at CRDB Bank.

"I look forward to achieving greater success for CRDB Bank and the Tanzania nation in future." Dr Kimei has more than three decades of dynamic leadership experience from the Bank of Tanzania, the central bank, MD of CRDB and the reigning Chairman of the Tanzania Bankers Association. He has a successful track record of organisation-building and delivering sustained growth and profitability, organically as well as through mergers and acquisitions.
