[Tanzania] Tanga Cement unveils all purpose cement targeting heightened construction activities

Tanzania based cement manufacturer Tanga Cement Public Limited Company has unveiled an all-purpose cement brand to tap into the heightened construction activities across the country.

Dubbed Mkombozi, the brand is targeting Tanzania’s construction needs across residential housing and infrastructure.

The TCPLC National Sales Manager Mr Leslie Massawe said that the new cement product will facilitate rapid development of housing and infrastructure projects.

“Understanding the significance of having sophisticated cement brands that best suit local practices of building houses, TCPCL has launched Mkombozi cement to cater for the increasing infrastructure project in the country,” he said.

He said the 32.5N Mkombozi cement class is an affordable product aimed at meeting the construction needs for Tanzanians in infrastructure and residential housing in particular.

Launching of the new brand is another step towards approaching Tanzanians with an innovative product which is affordable to the people while assured of high quality and technological superiority as the company’s trademark.

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) listed cement company trade as Tanga Cement Company Limited (TCCL) with more than 11 thousand shareholders. The company has grown dynamically and established footprints across the country as well as other East African markets including Rwanda and Burundi.

The company recently inaugurated an additional clinker production that has increased its capacity to 1.25 million tons from 500,000 tons per annum.

Presenting the state of the economy in Dar es Salaam last week, the Governor of the Central Bank Professor Benno Ndulu said the first three months of 2016 saw cement production in the country registering 7 per cent growth in the first quarter of 2016.

Cement production jumped up to 725,400 tons of cement compared to 680,000 tons which was produced in the same period in 2015. Tanzania is estimated to have cement consumption per capita below 70kg per person compared to the global average of 513kg per person.
