[Tanzania] Mkombozi bank opens up its loan facility to small entrepreneurs

Small entrepreneurs involved in groceries, tailoring, food vending and shop keeping will now have access to loans to cater for their medical insurance after Mkombozi Commercial Bank signed a deal with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

The bank’s Managing Director, Edwina Lupembe, said the bank has issued loans to the new NHIF members who are also good customers of the bank through their groups lending scheme.

“All these esteemed customers will now be able to receive health services from all hospitals earmarked by NHIF at a cost of only 76,800/- per year,” she said. She said the loans will cater for all health costs for beneficiaries.

“We as a bank decided to introduce this product as some of our customers can hardly afford medical services hence when we sold to them this idea, they received it with both hands and that is why we are here today to launch the new product and hand over cards to the first 60 initial beneficiaries,” she said.

“These entrepreneurs will be required to form groups of five each so they can qualify for financial literacy and the loans,” she said.

The NHIF representative, Mr Salvatory Okumu, thanked Mkombozi Bank for the new initiative which has also helped NHIF in widening its membership base further as more people will now get access to health services especially lower income groups in the private sector.

“These members will receive services such as X ray, maternity and others at only $35 per year which the bank will lend them.

It is now the responsibility of group leaders to encourage their members to go for this new product,” he said.
