Tanzania distiller quenches local demand for wine with new brand

Tanzania Distilleries Limited (TDL) has added another wine variety to its stable as it seeks to sate growing appetite for unique brands in the wine industry by a burgeoning middle class with specific taste and preferences.

The brand named Dodoma Rose Wine, is produced from locally sourced grapes, grown by farmers in Dodoma which is the second largest grape producing area in Sub Saharan Africa.

The wine was named after the area to honour farmers who meticulously ensure that only the top quality grapes are produced.

The wine which is made from locally produced grapes will be available nationwide. “Our agricultural initiative – Go farming – provides farmers with the requisite expertise in the ploughing, planting and eventual harvesting of the very best grapes that we use to produce our wines. The launch is therefore, also a testament to our commitment to the continual improvement of grape farming in Tanzania”, said Tanzania Breweries Limited Group Marketing Director, Kushilla Thomas.

Dodoma is the home of Tanzanian wine and is the 2nd largest grape producing area in sub-Saharan Africa. “It is therefore, only deserving that this region has a wine that honours its heritage,” she said.

Launched in 2010, the Dodoma Wine range is crafted from the very finest grapes grown by farmers in Dodoma. Thomas said that TDL Group is proud to introduce Dodoma Rose Wine to its extensive portfolio of fine wines.

“Our slogan for Dodoma Wine is, Taste the Difference! This is an invitation to all wine connoisseurs to sample the unique blend of flavours of Dodoma Wine range and pick the one which best suits their palate,” said Dodoma Wine Brand Manager, Warda Kimaro .

Dodoma Wine is available in four flavours: Dodoma Dry Red Wine; Dodoma Dry White Wine; Dodoma Natural Sweet and Dodoma Rose Wine. It will be retailing for $5.
