[Tanzania] Dar plays host to conference on liquefied petroleum gas

Tanzania’s capital Dar es Salaam is this week playing host to producers and distributors of liquefied petroleum gas who meet to discuss among other issues ways of removing trade barriers.

Under the theme "Removing Barriers LPG Growth and Distribution in Africa", the meeting will explore supportive policies necessary for provision of better access to LPG for populations and companies across the region, according to a press statement by Oryx Energies.

"Population growth, together with continued economic and social development, has raised the demand for energy in Africa and the need to protect the environment. We are convinced that LPG is an ideal solution and we expect this type of summit to support the policies necessary to provide better access to LPG for populations and companies across the region," it said.

According to the statement, LPG is readily available, easily stored and transported, and produces fewer greenhouse gases than any other fossil fuel. "LPG is a cleaner, healthier, safer, affordable and more ecological energy alternative to firewood, charcoal and kerosene, which are still widely used in sub-Saharan Africa."

Oryx Energies has been promoting LPG in sub-Saharan Africa for over 15 years. Its experience and reputation for quality and reliability have earned it a place on the Industry Council of the World LPG Association, making it a trusted partner for consumers and governments.

The company works to support the development of the policy frameworks that ensure consumers have safe and sustainable access to this energy alternative.

In Tanzania, Oryx Energies has been present since 1999 and is the market leader in LPG, with over 1 million LPG cylinders in the market. It has invested heavily in bulk LPG storage facilities in Dar es Salaam, as well as a series of upcountry depots and filling plants, to ensure a reliable supply to businesses and consumers across the country.

Six new depots and filling plants are in the process of being commissioned and a second LPG sphere is currently under construction.
