Sitarail and the governments of Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso sign agreement to modernize rail transport
The Governments of Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso and SITARAIL have formally signed an agreement that will lift the last conditions precedent to the entry into force of the revised concession agreement for the management and operation of the concession, Operation of the railway network linking Abidjan to Kaya via Ouagadougou, signed on 29 July 2016 in Yamoussoukro, during the Treaty of Friendship and Co-operation between the States of Cote d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
The High Authorities of the two countries thus renew their confidence in SITARAIL, a subsidiary of Bolloré Transport & Logistics, which has been managing and operating this rail network for 22 years.
In the first phase, SITARAIL will invest more than € 250 million over four years, dedicated to the renewal of the network infrastructure and to the modernization and expansion of the rolling stock fleet intended for the transport of passengers and goods.
SITARAIL will undertake the complete renovation of 200 km of railway tracks and numerous railway stations in order to modernize them, streamline the exchange of goods and people and reduce transit times between the two countries.
The impact of the railway, an essential regional integration tool, for the benefit of the populations and regions crossed, will be considerably strengthened, which will make it possible to intensify rail transport and absorb new import / export flows .
Increasing the performance of rail transport will increase the logistics capacity of the Port of Abidjan.
