[Rwanda] MTN in month long cashless economy campaign

Mobile telecommunication company MTN Rwanda has unveiled a month long campaign to woo customers to embrace cashless economy through mobile money.

Dubbed“Let’s Go Cashless” the campaign will be embellished with a series of events expected to deepen awareness and educate Rwandans about the benefits of using MTN Mobile Money services.

MTN Business General Manager Norman Munyampundu said the campaign in fact celebrates the endless possibilities the service offers and highlight the benefits of Mobile Money to individuals and businesses both small and large.

Mobile Money subscribers will enjoy a 20 per cent bonus on airtime bought via Mobile Money, and send money to Uganda, Kenya and Zambia for free a well the free bank push and pull services.

The service allows over 1 million active Mobile Money users to transfer money, make purchases,  pay school fees and bills with the simple use of a mobile phone making over 7 million transactions per month, a value of $85 million.

“The MTN Mobile Money platform has significantly contributed to the national economic strategy on enhancing cashless transactions that offer convenience and security. MTN Mobile Money has helped to unlock opportunities in digital space for corporate entities, organizations and all sectors within the Rwandan Economy” says Munyampundu.

The campaign will focus on the activation of new users and on promotions to reward existing and new customers of MTN Mobile Money services.

There will be customer education programs aired on radio and television to teach various ways that MTN Mobile Money services could make their lives more convenient.

MTN notes that over the years since the launch of the Mobile Money services, new opportunities were opened up for populations that previously were unserved.

Munyampundu says that they intend to assure time friendly services for all reaches of their customers in regard of the evolving digital world.

The company has been in Rwanda from 1998 and now leads the mobile telecommunications with 4 million subscribers, a trend that is still growing with availability of new digital divides defined with innovativeness to the customers.
