[Rwanda] Kigali to host Afreximbank Due Diligence and Corporate Governance Forum

Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali, will play host to the third edition of the African Export-Import Bank Annual Customer Due Diligence and Corporate Governance Forum scheduled to hold from 26 to 27 October, 2016, Afreximbank has announced in Cairo.

According to information released by the Bank today, the Forum will bring together experts, bankers, regulators, and cooperate entities, to discuss current practices and evolving trends in customer due diligence and corporate governance and to build the case for greater harmonization across the Continent.  They will also examine ways that African nations can leverage technologies, cross-border cooperation and collaboration among regulators, financial Institutions and corporates to build robust customer due diligence and good governance systems.

Organized in collaboration with Rwanda Development Board and the Development Bank of Rwanda, the Forum is being held under the theme, “Sustainable Practices in Africa: Progress through Technology and Collaboration”.

The Forum will provide a knowledge-sharing platform where public and private entities can exchange ideas on ways to shift from fragmented approaches to more uniform and collaborative practices in customer due diligence and corporate governance issues across the Continent,” said Dr. Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank.

Strong corporate governance and surveillance provide assurance to investors and are essential for increasing Africa’s attractiveness as an investment destination,” the President added, noting that investor confidence was critical for the industrialization of the Continent.

As part of its effort to promote customer due diligence and corporate governance in Africa, Afreximbank is also working on an African Customer Due Diligence Repository Platform, an online subscription-based central repository that will store know-your-customer information on African public and private entities, including financial institutions, corporates and small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Afreximbank Annual Customer Due Diligence and Corporate Governance Forum was first held in Dakar in October 2014.  The second edition took place in Seychelles from 29 to 30 October 2015.

More details about the Forum, including registration and participation information, can be found on the Afreximbank website.
