[Nigeria] Facebook partners ICLDNG to improve browsing

In an effort to make the internet a safe and secure environment for communities, Facebook has partnered with the International Centre for Leadership Development Nigeria (ICLDNG) to launch a safety center for teenagers, parents and educators.

According to Vanguard the safety center provides users with tips on safe and secure ways of sharing information. Also available on the safety center are services and tools to help people remain in control and protect their accounts. The center has information available in more than 50 languages with detailed videos on safety topics.

The Facebook safety center also has the Bullying prevention Hub that seeks to educate teenagers, parents and educators on ways to prevent bullying. The bullying hub was developed in 2013 by the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. Facebook works with over 60 partners across the world to make the Bullying hub widely available.

Speaking on the partnership, Executive Director of ICLDNG, Felix Iziomoh said, “We’re pleased to partner with Facebook to help educate people about how they can stay safe online. We believe in the positive uses of technology and we are happy to play a role in helping to create a better and safer online community.”

Through the center Facebook and the ICLDNG aims to make sharing information on a public domain safe and secure. In Kenya a similar partnership with Watoto Watch Network to bring its safety resources to life and address local communities.
