[Nigeria] Access Bank’s Centralised Operations Group Constructs Hostel for Visually Impaired Persons

Access Bank’s CSR has identified The Federal Nigerian Society for the blind (a Non-Governmental Organization) as the beneficiary of her volunteering effort.

The Group partnered with The Federal Nigerian Society for the blind (FNSB) to improve the socio-economic well-being of Visually Impaired Persons through the following areas of impact and initiative:

  • Seminar on Empowerment of Visually Impaired Persons (VIPs)

  • Mentorship

  • Interactive/Bonding session between Access Bank staff and VIPs

  • Providing support in the conversion of texts books to braille

  • Providing support in the conversion of text books to audio/talking books

  • Construction of a building a 40-room hostel for the students

The 40-room hostel, which was officially commissioned on the 14th December, 2016 by the Deputy Group Managing Director of Access Bank, Obinna Nwosu, will provide the school an opportunity to accommodate more students and give better access to learning aids. The overall aim of the project is to enable resourcefulness and encourage independence among the students.

Also in attendance from Access Bank were the Executive Director (Ops & IT), Ojini Olaghere, Group Head, Centralized Operations, Ihunanya Onuoha. Also present were the Chairman, Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, Dr. Awelenje; Representative of the Honorable Commissioner for Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Olukanmi-Abokhai Eniola and representative of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Kehinde Hazoume.

Other dignitaries from the school were Chief Falomo, Chief E.O Akinshete, Asiwaju Fola Osibo and Mrs Ebun Onabanjo.
