New Doosan excavator launched in Africa

Doosan has launched the new DX225LCA crawler excavator for the African and Middle East markets

The operating weight of the new DX225LCA excavator varies from 21.5 to 23.2 tonnes, depending on the configuration. The new model offers a maximum bucket capacity from 0.39 to 1.28 cu/m, a digging depth of 6,620 mm, a reach of 9,900 mm and a digging height of 9,750 mm.

The DX225LCA is equipped with an air to air intercooler six-cylinder Doosan DB58TIS Tier II compliant engine, developing 110 kW (148 HP) of power at 1,900 rpm (SAE J1349). The DX225LCA also provides impressive bucket and dipper stick breakout forces of 15.2 and 15.3 tonnes, respectively.

Replacing the previous SOLAR model, this new generation machine offers a new design particularly suited to the specific needs of the African and Middle East markets, combining high robustness with a number of important new functionalities and technical improvements, including:

A powerful Doosan Tier II compliant engine with reduced fuel consumption and emissions
High quality materials and components for long-term reliability and maximum uptime
A brand new fully-featured, ergonomically designed cab providing comfort and all-round visibility for the operator
Simplified, independent electronics suited to African and Middle East markets
A combination of strength, stability and versatility ensuring a high return on investment typical of all Doosan excavators

Selected via the new LCD colour display panel in the cab, there are three operating modes for the new DX225LCA excavator: power, standard and the economy mode, offering a significant reduction in fuel consumption. In combination with these work modes (P/S/E), the new EPOS controller ensures a perfect interface and adjustment between the engine and hydraulic output that optimises productivity and significantly reduces fuel consumption by five to 15 per cent depending upon the mode selected.

In addition, the incorporation of new generation components and an optimal separation of the hydraulic flow output needed for travel and the front workgroup results in a significant acceleration of movements with better smoothness and proportional flow.

Overall, the new LCD colour display panel in the cab provides an enhanced view of the available functions of the excavator, the operation history and more specific aspects such as maintenance intervals and the status of filters in the filtration systems. The hydraulic flow of the auxiliary line can also be adjusted directly from the display panel, which is only accessible using a security code to combat theft.

Elsewhere in the cab, the space for the operator has been significantly increased, while the comfort, seat and joystick controls have all been improved. The DX225LCA excavator is available as standard with a new automatically adjusting air conditioning system offering a 20 per cent greater cooling capacity with five aeration modes. Of particular interest is the cab noise level which has been significantly reduced to only 73 dBA (103 dBA outside). The cab offers also as standard a sun screen and several storage compartments, including a lockable box which can be heated or cooled for food and drinks.

For increased visibility, the thickness of the lateral supports at the front of the cab has been significantly reduced and the windscreen wiper now folds back behind the right console to ensure the operator always has optimum visibility to the front during operation. The side, rear and roof windows have all been greatly enlarged to further enhance visibility. To match the increased performance and productivity, particular attention has been given towards reinforcing the front workgroup with thicker steel and additional reinforcement plates, increasing reliability and durability.

Wide steel doors provide full protection for the pump and radiator compartments at the same time as ensuring excellent access for maintenance. Greasing intervals has been optimised by utilising reinforced bushings and shims, whilst maintenance intervals have been increased thanks to installation of the latest generation filters. In addition to the standard filters, the machine is equipped with a turbo III air filter eliminating 99 per cent of particle emissions.
