Proflight Zambia: New Route to Lubumbashi now operating
Proflight Zambia has launched a new route to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) enabling business people and traders to travel easily between the mining centres of Ndola and Lubumbashi.
The new addition to the airline’s international network will provide a comfortable, reliable route to a key hub within the DRC.
Proflight Director of Government and Industry Affairs Captain Philip Lemba said: “Proflight Zambia recognises the needs of business people in the region and therefore we are pleased to facilitate the ongoing commerce, trade and industry connections between Zambia and the DRC.”
Flights operate from Ndola’s Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport to Lubumbashi International Airport three times a week - on Tuesday mornings and Thursday and Friday afternoons. Proflight, through its extensive network of routes, also make it easy and affordable to connect to Lusaka by providing reduced through-fares in all classes on that route.
The route is operated with a Jetstream 32 aircraft. Fares start from around K2,682 return, including taxes.
Lubumbashi is the second largest city in the DRC and the centre of a thriving business area. Mining in the Katanga area is a hive of economic activity and a source of ongoing development. Zambia has strong business and trade ties with this part of the country and large numbers of vehicles travel between Lubumbashi and Kasumbelesa on the Zambian border on a daily basis, transporting copper minerals and cement.
Due to the sustained growth in Lubumbashi and the surrounding area, service industries including accommodation, banks, communications and supermarkets are widely available in the city.
The airline, which celebrates 23 years of operation this year flies from its base in Lusaka to Livingstone, Ndola, Kasama, Chipata, Mansa, Mfuwe, Solwezi and Lower Zambezi, as well as to Lilongwe in Malawi. It adds a route to Kafue National Park next year.
