The Southern Africa Customs Union (SACU) on Wednesday said it has identified five projects that it will implement during the course of this year as part its effort to realise its vision of equitable and sustainable development in the region.

SACU’s Communication Manager Kungo Mabogo said the Union will work on implementing the regional industrial development policy; the revision of the revenue sharing arrangement; trade facilitation, development of SACU institutions; unified engagement in trade negotiations and trade in services, says SACU’s Communication Manager Kungo Mabogo.

She said the Union’s activities are informed by a work programme and that this year the programme’s five projects that have been are deemed important to move the organisation forward.

The official noted that SACU has over the years been making significant strides in various capacities, which have culminated in the increase of intra-trade from N$98.9 billion (about $6 billion) in 2009 to N$185.6 billion ($11 billion) in 2014.
