[Morocco] Vivo Energy launches rapid battery charging station for electric cars

Petroleum company Vivo Energy has installed a rapid battery charging station for electric cars at a Shell station in between Casablanca and Marrakesh in Morocco.
The first station with the new capability is located on the edge of Casablanca, on the road to Marrakesh.

Eventually the 7 to 22.5 kilowatt-capacity charging stations will spread through the remainder of the route and the rest of the country, the company says. The devices can charge electric car batteries from 0 percent to 80 percent capacity in one hour, the company said, adding that the stations will be able to accommodate every form and size of battery currently in the market.

In the beginning of 2017, Vivo will launch a new application that will make it easier for motorists to locate stations with electric car charging capabilities.
Renault Group, Schneider and M2M announced the design of the first Moroccan-made electric car in September. The car will be tested during the COP22 climate change conference in Marrakesh next week.

Renault’s Tangier factory will provide a fleet of electric cars to assist with the transportation of the summit’s participants and guests. Vehicles from other manufacturers, such as Twizy, Kangoo, Zoe, Leaf and Evalia, will also take part in this operation.

By 2030, Morocco aims to reduce carbon emissions by 12 percent in the transport sector by introducing 700,000 electric vehicles into circulation.
