Mondelez commences Oreo biscuits production in Africa

Confectionery, food and beverage conglomerate Mondelez has commenced production and sale of Oreo in Morocco, following an $11m investment towards its local subsidiary in Casablanca.

With the investment, Mondelez aims to create the largest Oreo production line in Africa.

The company has installed a high-tech production line, which will help it manufacture 900 million Oreo biscuits per year in the facility.

The investment has also helped the company expand local biscuits market by generating more business for Mondelez International's Morocco trade partners.

According to Mondelez, the $11m investment reinforces the company's international presence and makes it the number one biscuit maker in Morocco.

With the announcement, Oreo will be available to 34 million Moroccans and will be offered in different formats and prices to make it affordable.

Mondelez Biscuits director Morocco & Algeria Aziz Benjelloun said: "Oreo made in Morocco meets our highest standards around the world. We are very proud this was recognized by an international panel of independent professionals that we commissioned.

"Mondelez International specifications, quality processes and new equipment ensure that all Oreos are made equal."
