Metals of Africa appoints Cherie Leeden as managing director

Metals of Africa has appointed Cherie Leeden as its managing director from her previous role as executive director following its recent successful placement and rights issue.

This represents a commitment by both Leeden and the company to progress the imminent drilling campaigns and ongoing exploration efforts in Africa.

Leeden joined the company in July 2013 and has since driven its exploration teams across thre countries while being responsible for all corporate activities.

“Cherie's record of discovery, her background with the major minerals houses, and strong commitment to on-the-ground exploration and in-country management will ensure Metals of Africa is well placed to quickly capitalise on exploration success in the future,” chairman Gilbert George said.

Metals of Africa recently raised $5 million through a fully underwritten $3.2 million rights issue priced at $0.15 and a $1.8 million placement to fund geophysical programs and upcoming drilling programs at the Rio Mazoe base metal and Montepuez graphite projects.

Earlier this month, it extended due diligence on the Balama Central Project in the world class Cabo Delgado Graphite Province in Mozambique by six weeks to allow the flying airborne electromagnetic (VTEM) survey.

Balama Central is located along strike and immediately adjacent to the Balama Graphite Project – the world’s largest graphite resource of 1.15 billion tonnes at 10.2% total graphitic content.

It expects to this week start the highly anticipated drilling program at its Rio Mazoe project in Mozambique targeting shallow Broken Hill-style lead-zinc-copper occurrences.
