Dr Frank Stangenberg Haverkamp recieving a trophy of appreciation by kenya Minister of Health at Serrena hotelThe Merck Capacity Advancement Program aims at expanding the professional capacity in the areas of research and development, clinical research, supply chain integrity and efficiency, pharmacovigilance, community awareness and medical education for medical and pharmacy undergraduates, physicians and pharmacists in rural areas.

Merck Capacity Advancement Program in partnership with Ministry of Health and Maharashtra University will conduct Community Outreach Programs for diabetes awareness and prevention in each city that the 18 medical colleges are located in Maharashtra state.

Merck has successfully conducted several diabetes awareness and prevention campaigns in Africa with special focus on rural areas and will capitalize on our experience to ensure the success of Community Outreach Program of the medical colleges in India.

Merck European accredited Diabetes course has become a regular part in undergraduates’ curricula in 10 colleges of 8 universities in seven Sub- Saharan African countries

The education offered to medical & pharmacy students and healthcare providers during the CME tour of Africa is aligned with the standards of the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME).

The Merck Africa University  CME Tour , run in partnership with EXCEMED and Oxford Centre of Diabetes, Churchill Hospital, Oxford, UK and will reach general practitioners and medical & pharmacy students and pharmacists across Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda.

The workshops, tailored to local needs, presented evidence-based data and novel diabetes management approaches through interactive clinical case studies. 

The 5 year program was kicked off successfully in 7 sub- Saharan countries which are Kenya, Uganda, Namibia Angola, Ghana, Tanzania and Mozambique and will further expand to other Sub-Saharan and Asian countries in 2014.
