Liquid Telecom Group CEO Nic Rudnick appears on list of fifty African trailblazers

Nic Rudnick, Liquid Telecom’s CEO, appears in The Africa Report magazine’s annual Trailblazers in Africa list, which went on sale yesterday.

Published by Groupe Jeune Afrique, The Africa Report has established itself as “the international publication of reference dedicated to African affairs. Its recognised high-quality coverage of the African business environment is combined with the strongest pan-African and international circulation”.

The Africa Report’s annual list of trailblazers highlights “the pioneers who will lead us to the Africa of tomorrow” and “showcases a startling diversity of talent and grit”.

Nic is one of eight business pioneers who feature in the list which includes footballer Didier Drogba, trumpeter Hugh Masekela, Jerry Brown from Liberia who is described as “West Africa’s bulwark against the Ebola epidemic” and the billionaire and philanthropist, Mo Ibrahim.

This is the latest in a long line of accolades for both Liquid Telecom and Nic Rudnick. The company is Nic’s creation based on his vision of Africa being connected by one independent network. Some years ago he realised that, with the huge investments in the various new sea cables, international capacity wouldn’t be the problem in Africa – bringing the fibre inland into landlocked countries and crossing borders would be far more difficult to achieve.

To this end, Nic has worked tirelessly hands-on to navigate the multitude of legal, political, logistical and geographical barriers he encountered when building what is now Africa’s largest independent fibre network. This network currently spans almost 20,000km across borders from the tip of Uganda to Cape Town and is complemented by a pan-African satellite network.
