Kieran Whyte appointed to board of International Project Finance Association in South Africa

Kieran Whyte, a partner specialising in energy and infrastructure projects in Baker McKenzie's Johannesburg office, has been appointed to serve on the International Project Finance Association (IPFA) Council in South Africa.

IPFA is an independent, not-for-profit, professional members association dedicated to promoting and representing the interests of both public and private sector organisations involved in project finance and Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) worldwide.

Its members are the key players within the infrastructure and energy industry. IPFA’s aim is to raise awareness about project finance and PPPs and the crucial role they place in infrastructure and economic development.

Whyte notes, “The PPP procurement model could assist governments in addressing the infrastructure deficit, thereby helping to facilitate economic growth, despite current economic headwinds and fiscal pressures. PPPs bring private sector innovation, finance and expertise to infrastructure projects -which can all contribute to the overall success of  such ventures."

Whyte represents project sponsors, developers, contractors and lenders in complex greenfield and brownfield developments, advising on citing, permitting and regulatory concerns.

He has advised on numerous first-in-kind projects associated with the South African government's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme.

He is seasoned in matters concerning PPP and concession agreements, project strategy and structuring EPC contracts including standard and bespoke forms of contracts, operation and maintenance contracts, fuel purchase and sale agreements and related matters.
